Hey, an Australian F800GS adventure? That sounds like a challenge. Got any details?

Recently I covered 750 miles in two days with my f650gs. Two full side panniers; a fully loaded top box: tank pack and a 20 kilo hiking pack straddled across the pillion seat. All this through twisting curves and then 120-140km/hr on the open stretches with hot sun or pouring rain. The 650 screamed for more!! However, I won't be using solid panniers for my Australian desert adventure on the f800gs next year for obvious reasons. Care to join me?

I've been riding the best of both world's off road for near on a decade. Now that I'm at this end, I will take the Euro bike every time. 'Twodozeneggs' was spot on with his comment, the BMW will go much further with less complaints than its cheaper Jap counterparts with half the distance on their clocks.

Nice little bike. Strap a credit card to the gas tank and you could easy do 200 mile days in the saddle on this baby. Were those two black boxes on the back for the spares? Where dose the camping equipment go?

I think that if one thing that japanese bikes are is reliable. Japanese bikes didn't brake more or less often... they simply didn't brake! And sadly, BMW can't say this...anyway... I'm going to buy another 800GS jeje

Getting one in '08. However I can not see myself with my old faithfull f650Gs. Perhaps my wife might be interestedin taking it on. The beemers are really difficult to get part with. However, I already have plans for crossing Australia (and back, and around etc. etc.) on the 800!!

Yeah but BMW's don't need servicing for a very long time. They are much more tough and don't break down as often as made in japan bikes

My life has been spent conserving the worlds wild places. But do not think for a moment it does not take capable vehicles to allow those scientific endeavors to take place. In the developing world, or Arctic, science is conducted in part by burning fossil fuel. Even Green Peace burns fossil fuels in the defense of wildlife. As you grow older (and wiser), you will be able to discern the difference between effective conservation and idealism.
